The Sequential Intercept Model (SIM) is a strategic planning tool which informs responses to individuals with behavioral health disorders involved in the justice system. This presentation will highlight how programmatic efforts focused on the SIM at the federal and state levels is guiding improved collaboration within and between counties as well as from county to state leadership to build a stronger safety net of behavioral health services for those individuals at risk of or involved in the justice system. A representative from SAMHSA will join to share national projects related to the SIM and accompany the more in-depth example from Missouri. Essential partnerships between behavioral health agencies, the criminal justice system, and organizations providing health-related social services have led to successful outcomes, improving community-based services and resources for this population in Missouri.
