With stigma, disinformation, hate activity and denial of care on the rise across the nation, competent care for people of all sexual identifies and orientations has never been more important. Members of these communities face some of the most stark physical and mental health outcomes, but supportive relationships and access to care environments that are welcoming and embracing can make a profound difference. We will assume an understanding of basic concepts and terminology, and explore hallmarks of creating supportive environments and best practices for advocating for individuals in these communities across their life domains. This very practical workshop will provide numerous tools for further learning and practice.
Learning Objectives:
Identify hallmarks of welcoming and supporting individuals of all sexual identifies and orientations and offering supportive environments, while taking inventory of our own practices and agency policies and spaces.
Examine concrete and practical steps to support these communities and advocate for them across their life domains.
Commit to allyship and taking respecful, appropriate actions that are informed and inspired by newly learned insights and best practices.
