We must address the underlying conditions that impact people’s lives to cultivate change with an emphasis on systems-level issues, particularly in education, fairness and equality, and personal development. Proactive efforts must create environments that foster growth, opportunity and positive transformation. Addiction doesn't happen in a vacuum, nor does recovery. By treating the “soil” — our societal and personal foundations — we can foster support for individuals, communities and future generations to thrive. This talk is an inspiring call to action and a reminder that lasting change starts with first challenging individual bias related to substance use and then addressing root causes for systems-level change.
