Rebecca Carter is the Associate Director for the FSU College of Medicine Area Health Education Center (AHEC), where she has been an integral part of the team for over a decade. After earning her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and her Master’s degree in Social Work, both from FSU, Rebecca went to work at the community mental health hospital in Tallahassee. While working as an intensive outpatient case manager and providing individual and group therapy, she also contracted with FSU AHEC to offer group tobacco cessation services within the mental health hospital. In 2015, Rebecca joined FSU AHEC full-time, where she has been dedicated to ensuring access to treatment for individuals with behavioral health and tobacco dependence co-morbidities.
Rebecca is a Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and a Qualified Supervisor for Social Work Interns. She also serves as an adjunct instructor at the FSU College of Social Work and has been serving on their Field Advisory Committee since 2019. Beyond her professional responsibilities, Rebecca is deeply committed to community service and has a passion for supporting individuals experiencing mental health challenges. Since 2020, she has served on the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Tallahassee Board of Directors, where she has been a devoted mental health advocate. In her free time, Rebecca enjoys spending time at home with her wife and two wild and wonderful dogs.
