Shayna Todd, is a Certified Crisis Negotiator and Senior Operations Manager for Psychiatry at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). She holds a Bachelors degree in Psychology from Ohio University and two Masters degrees in Psychiatry from East Carolina University. Shayna is a specialist in De-Escalation and Communication and teaches this skillset to healthcare organizations, schools and law enforcement throughout the state of South Carolina. Her career began in emergency services working with a Mobile Crisis team where she was later promoted with law enforcement to a Crisis Negotiator. Here, she worked with suicidal, homicidal and hostage negotiations in addition to being a lead clinician in emergency psychiatric commitments. Shayna later moved to Raleigh, North Carolina where she worked managing both adult and pediatric psychiatric emergency rooms. In addition, she led a team of security guards and helped develop training for security staff in basic mental health care and empathetic communication with patients. Shayna currently manages Ambulatory Operations for Psychiatry at MUSC. She oversees a variety of areas including: Brain Stimulation Services, Eating Disorder Therapies, Adult Intensive Outpatient Services, Children’s Day Treatment Services, Autism Services, General Psychiatry, Geriatric Psychiatry, Counseling Services at The Citadel, Children’s Psychiatry, Therapy in Primary Care Clinics and Ketamine treatment. In her spare time, Shayna can be found cheering on her favorite football teams - The Cincinnati Bengals, Carolina Panthers and the Ohio State Buckeyes! She also has a 2 year old son Mason who keeps her very busy!
