Dr. Rochelle Head-Dunham is an Endowed Professor at LSU School of Medicine and a double board-certified Addiction Psychiatrist who holds positions of Clinical Associate Professor at LSU and Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at Tulane University. She has held significant state appointed roles including Assistant Secretary and Medical Director for Louisiana’s Office of Behavioral Health, contributing to the transition to Medicaid-managed behavioral healthcare and integrative care models, and the state’s national lead authority for NASMHPD and NASADAD. Dr. Head-Dunham is a member of various professional boards and organizations, advocating for improved behavioral health outcomes and equitable access to care. Recognized as a “Louisiana Physician Champion,” she has received multiple awards, including the Clinical Faculty of the Year at LSU in 2021, the AATOD Nyswander/Dole Award in 2019 for her career work with MOUD and most recently, awards honoring Women in Leadership for 2025. In addition to her professional accomplishments, Dr. Head-Dunham is a sought-after speaker at state and national conferences, where she shares her insights on addiction psychiatry, public health policies, and innovative treatment approaches. Her dedication extends beyond her professional life, as she actively mentors young professionals in the field, fostering the next generation of behavioral health leaders. Currently, she serves as Executive Director and Medical Director for the Louisiana Metropolitan Human Services District, the local lead authority for addiction, mental illness and intellectual and developmental disabilities public services.
