Richard Rawson a Professor Emeritus in the UCLA Department of Psychiatry and a Research Professor at the University of Vermont in the Department of Psychiatry. He has over 50 years of research, treatment, and training experience on the topic of substance use disorders/addiction, with over 270 peer-reviewed publications and over 40 chapters, and he has co-edited 6 books. As the principal investigator for multiple research projects funded by NIDA, NIAAA, SAMHSA, and private research grants, he has overseen the successful implementation of over 20 behavioral and pharmacotherapy clinical trials, including a NIDA funded 5-year study of contingency management. From 2000-2005, he directed a project in California to implement contingency management in California treatment clinics, and led the SAMHSA-funded Pacific Southwest Addiction Technology Transfer Center. In 2007, he was selected to be the PI of TREATNET, a worldwide addiction training/technology transfer network funded by the UN Office of Drugs and Crime. In this effort, he created an extensive addiction training curriculum designed to culturally adapt and disseminate research-based knowledge on drug use and treatment to treatment personnel around the world. Dr. Rawson is currently the senior advisor to the Director of Behavioral Health for the California Department of Healthcare Services on a 3 year, $58M pilot project to disseminate and implement contingency management as the mainstream treatment for individuals with stimulant use disorder in California. He is also a founding member of the Contingency Management Policy Group (CMPG), consulting on the design and assisting with implementation of contingency management projects in Vermont, Maine, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
