Torrey A. Creed, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine and a licensed clinical psychologist. She founded the Penn Collaborative for CBT and Implementation Science, a Center that emphasizes public-academic partnerships to increase equitable access to cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based practices (EBPs). Under this umbrella, Dr. Creed directs the Penn Beck Community Initiative, a program of implementation and research to foster high-quality, sustainable CBT in community mental health for clients with pressing mental health needs. Dr. Creed also directs the COAPS (Certified Older Adult Peer Specialists) training and employment initiative, with the goal of helping older adults with behavioral health issues improve their quality of life. She serves as Health Policy Advisor to Partners in Health, implementing CBT and other EBPs in low- and middle-income countries. Her research focuses on pragmatic and sustainable strategies to increase access to high-quality mental health care - particularly in low-resource contexts. A fundamental challenge in this work is one of scaling. Over the past decade, Dr. Creed has collaborated with community partners, industry leaders and tech start-ups, and other implementation science researchers to explore the role technology can play in scaling up access to high-quality mental health care. She serves as the Senior Implementation Consultant for Lyssn.io, emphasizing the development, evaluation, and implementation of artificial intelligence-based tools to allow therapists to learn and practice new skills, to evaluate the use of those skills in their regular therapy sessions, and to facilitate targeted and efficient supervision. In addition, she and her colleagues have several federally-funded grants including the integration of behavioral economics principles to improve the delivery of cognitive behavioral therapy in telehealth, the development of a natural language processing-based therapist tool to improve culturally responsive mental healthcare. She has also provided expert consultation for Google, Psych Hub, and other companies seeking to leverage technology to improve people's access to high quality care. She serves on several scientific advisory boards, teaches, mentors students and postdoctoral fellows, and provides workshops and consultation around the world.
