Mary Silberstein is a community and health system leader with over 34 years of experience in the behavioral healthcare field. She has dedicated her career in improving the lives of individuals with mental health and substance use issues on Long Island.
Mary has been a member of the CN Guidance health system since 2013, originally creating a sustainable and successful Addiction Recovery Treatment Services program and then moving up to become the Division Director of Integrated Counseling and Recovery Treatment Services. In this role, Mary worked with community partners and federal, state, and local funding agencies to develop a fully functioning outpatient clinic and mobile recovery unit where thousands of clients receive physical health, mental health, and substance use treatment annually. Mary was a key player and an integral part of the federal and New York State decision to award CN Guidance with Certified Community Behavioral Health Center status and led the seamless transition into providing services in this unprecedented role. Mary is currently in the position of Senior Director of Strategic Alliances & Special Projects and works with multiple Long Island task forces or committees focusing on issues related to mental health and substance use prevention, treatment and recovery.
Mary has extensive experience with evidence-based practices and with directly managing and providing leadership/ oversight to grant programs from SAMHSA and other federal funding sources, and from the NYS Office of Mental Health and Office of Addiction Services and Supports She has presented nationally on innovative models of care; and collaborated in the 2023 LI Report on Strengthening the System of Care for Co-Occurring Disorders. In preparation for her decades of experience promoting recovery, Mary earned her Masters of Social Work degree from Adelphi University and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from California State University at Long Beach.
