Fatmata Williams is a career clinician with experience in direct care and patient advocacy, as well as leadership work in developing state Medicaid policy, quality improvement, and framing and implementing new services. She is informed by lived experience as an African immigrant, now a naturalized U.S. citizen, working with individuals and communities that have experienced barriers to equitably accessing and utilizing health care. She is currently focusing on developing a value-based Medicaid maternity payment bundle, overseeing an 1115 Substance Use Disorder Waiver, applying for an 1115 Justice Involved Waiver, and overseeing the administration of health benefits for over one million Connecticut residents who are Medicaid eligible. As Director of Medical Administration at the Connecticut Department of Social Services (DSS), Fatmata oversees four Administrative Services Organization contracts in delivering medical, dental, non-emergency medical transportation, and behavioral health services for Connecticut Medicaid members. Fatmata also oversees the administration of the pharmacy benefit for Connecticut Medicaid members, overseeing a portfolio of approximately $6.2 billion annually. In her current role, Fatmata also engages in cross-state and cross-departmental collaborative work, such as coordinating with other state Medicaid programs and partnering with various healthcare providers, to improve health outcomes for Connecticut Medicaid members specifically and Connecticut residents generally. Fatmata loves to read, write and dance to afrobeat music. She lives in Connecticut with her husband and two sons.
