In this session you will learn about the American Academy of Pediatrics Center of Excellence on Social Media and Youth Mental Health’s child-centered framework for understanding youth social media use, conversation starters to engage youth, and how to connect with youth and families around social media and mental health. We will explore how to meet youth where they are when it comes to mental health, social media and substance use, starting with thinking intentionally about our own media use. We’ll discuss the importance of ongoing youth engagement, and the possibilities social media provides for empowerment and creativity.

Learning Objectives:

Describe the child-centered framework for social media and youth mental health and know how to help families achieve balanced media use.
Apply engagement strategies based on trust, insights and framing to build meaningful conversations with youth.
Explore creative approaches for youth engagement and expression on social media.
