I1 - Oregon's Journey to Open Recovery High Schools

Oregon has passed HB 2767 which supports the opening of a number of recovery high schools throughout the state with the department of education.
Participants will learn about Oregon's recovery school law, what a recovery high school is and funding which supports student needs. We will explore creative ways of partnering with communities, agencies and school districts. Participants will leave with a renewed passion for youth supports and services in schools and communities around recovery, as well as tools, research, funding ideas, and policy examples to help support your state consider ways in which to open and fund recovery schools.
Learning Objectives:
To identify key components of the Oregon recovery schools law and apply those components in discussions for improved services and funding in your state.
To discuss and formulate a clear understanding of recovery schools' combination of academic instruction, which lead to a diploma, and the provision of recovery supports within the daily school schedule, which includes mental heatlh and substance use supports.
To discuss community partnerships with schools and analyze various ways to provide services to students in school with substance use and co-occuring mental health challenges.
