    G10 - Addressing Unmet Mental Health Needs for Veterans: The Pivotal Role of CCBHCs

    Over 40% of veterans may need mental health services. CCBHCs can play a critical role in addressing the unmet mental health needs of the veteran population.

    Since 2010, Centerstone’s Military Services has run a network of 1,500+ licensed therapists who support military communities across all 50 states. During this presentation, attendees will learn how Centerstone applied this approach to the CCBHC model. Specifically, attendees will learn about military cultural competency, strategies for engaging with their state’s VA office, and hear about two CCBHC case studies relative to serving veterans.

    Learning Objectives:

    • Clarify the concept of military cultural competency (e.g., differentiate introductory competency from clinical competency) and its influence on the delivery of services for veterans.
    • Explore how this model, for veterans and service members, has been applied via a CCBHC DCO agreement.
    • Examine the clinical models required by SAMHSA and Department of Veterans Affairs within the CCBHC model.
