Tuesday, May 6, 2025
12:30 PM – 1:00 PM ET
Location: Hall BCD
Electronic vaping devices, also called vapes, have led to a public health crisis among young people. On behalf of the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Division of Tobacco Prevention and Control, a panel survey was used to collect data on the health behaviors and attitudes of people who vape in Pennsylvania. The panel survey results suggest a need for increased awareness among behavioral health professionals about the harms and risks of vaping to counteract messaging by the tobacco industry when working with young adult clients.
Learning Objectives:
Discuss gaps in literature on the mental health impacts of vaping on young people, and intervention strategies to mitigate these impacts.
Identify appropriate areas for behavioral health messaging to young vape users about dissuading the idea that vapes are beneficial for coping with stress and anxiety.
Describe the discrepancies in feedback among individuals aged 18-24, and 25+ on vaping behaviors.
