J7 - Advancing Mental Health Integration in School-based Health Centers: State Efforts, Challenges and Opportunities

As states work to address the youth mental health crisis, many are leveraging School-Based Health Centers (SBHCs) to expand access to integrated care. This session will provide an overview of SBHCs, highlight case studies demonstrating effective mental health service models, and examine recent state-level efforts to support and scale these services. Drawing from the Partnering with States to Improve Youth Mental Health learning collaborative, participants will explore common challenges, policy considerations, and opportunities for advancing SBHC-based mental health care.

Explain the foundational role of SBHCs in delivering integrated health services, particularly mental and behavioral health care.
Describe how different SBHC models approach the integration of mental health services, drawing from real-world examples.
