    G7 - Improving Care for Youth With Trauma

    Twenty-one percent of children in the United States have experienced at least one adverse childhood experience with certain populations experiencing an increased prevalence. During routine care, clinicians can address these disparities by incorporating fairness and accessibility into trauma-informed care practices. This interactive workshop will describe the 5L Framework for health care clinicians and organizations and prepare attendees to apply these principles into care. Attendees will interact with the framework through patient case studies and walk away equipped to enhance their quality of care and improve patient outcomes.

    Learning Objectives:

    • Describe the complex interplay of individual factors, cultural considerations and societal disparities that shape trauma experiences and healing processes for youth from underrepresented communities.
    • Incorporate self-reflection and awareness into trauma-informed care when caring for children with adverse childhood experiences to create supportive, welcoming environments for healing and empowerment.
    • Apply the 5L Framework for health care clinicians and organizations in clinical practice — particularly for mental health treatment — in primary care and school-based health settings.
