Mathew Swerdloff has served as an educator in New York State’s public schools for over thirty years. He has held positions as classroom teacher in grades 3 through 8, Director of Technology, Director of Library Media Services, Executive Director of Educational Support Services, and is currently an Adjunct Professor in the Graduate School of Education at the State University of New York at New Paltz. During his career he has been responsible for human resources, staff training, managing technical support and technology infrastructure, the development of curriculum that incorporates the use of technology tools, information systems and data management, social media and website administration, and perhaps most importantly, teaching teachers and administrators.
Mathew earned his Master’s Degree in Education and his New York State School District Administrator Certification from the State University of New York at New Paltz, and his Doctorate in Instructional Leadership from Western Connecticut State University at Danbury, Connecticut.
In 2013, Mathew was awarded a Fulbright Specialist grant to travel to Santiniketan, India, and offer lectures and workshops to students and staff at Visva-Bharati University. In 2020 he was awarded a second Fulbright Specialist Grant and returned to India in 2022 to work with staff and students at IIM in Bodh Gaya on mindfulness practices.
Mathew is the co-founder and President of the Maya Gold Foundation, a non-profit organization that serves youth in the Hudson Valley of New York and in Nepal. It is through this work that he became involved in tMHFA and YMHFA. The concepts and skills of these trainings align perfectly with the mission of the Maya Gold Foundation to “empower youth to access their inner wisdom and realize their dreams.”
Mathew is trained in Mental Health First Aid, Youth Mental Health First Aid, and Teen Mental Health First Aid. He is a YMHFA and tMHFA trainer and leads workshops throughout the Hudson Valley of New York. This work takes him to schools, community centers, non-profits and religious organizations. Mathew is also certified to offer Narcan training in New York State. Mathew has trained over 400 teens in tMHFA and over 200 adults in YMHFA. Mathew can be reached at info@mayagoldfoundation.org.
