    MP38 - Creative Solutions: How an Acute Medical Facility's Behavioral Health Services Improve Patient Care and Staff Morale

    Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall (MSLC) is a two-campus 242-bed acute care hospital in Newburgh, NY. In December of 2022, MSLC added Behavioral Health Services to assess patients presenting with Behavioral Health issues in the ED. In this session, presenters will explain the how the initial objectives of assessment and discharge planning grew into meeting previously unidentified needs of patients and staff. Participants will follow the journey and learn how the BH Team became integrated into the fabric of service delivery, staff education, and security responses throughout the hospital. Data collection will be reviewed, and future planning discussions will be facilitated.

    Learning Objectives:

    • Participants will be able to identify key partners in a hospital/primary medical setting to establish Behavioral Health Services as a necessary part of the care team for all patients.
    • Participants will receive data collection strategies that support the need for BH team including cost savings and patient satisfaction outcomes.
    • Participants will gain an understanding of the needs and stresses of both the patients and medical staff and techniques to mitigate that stress and eliminate barriers to true integrated care.
