Dr. Charles “Chuck” Browning is the Chief Executive Officer and President of Behavioral Health Link and the Chief Medical Officer of Strategy for Recovery Innovations (RI). He has devoted his career to improving the systems and care experience for persons with mental health and substance use needs. He has held leadership positions in public and private care systems, including Crisis System Care, Assertive Community Treatment Teams, rural community behavioral health care, and Opioid Treatment Programs. He is an active member of the National Council for Wellbeing’s Medical Director Institute with a focus on their Crisis Committee. Dr. Browning graduated from North Carolina State University, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill Medical School and completed his internship and residency at the University of North Carolina. Dr. Browning has also practiced in the NC prison psychiatric system and his private practice. He has been a codeveloper of the crisis platform software from Behavioral Health Link, which is being used nationally. He has special interests in promoting several thought leadership initiatives in collaboration with Behavioral Health Link and RI, including the original SAMSHA’s National Tool Kit for Behavioral Crisis Care (Project Writing and Editing Team), the current SAMSHA national guidelines revision (participant in national crisis summit ) Crisis Now, Zero Suicide, 988 and writing on subjects of medication and medical guidelines in crisis for NASMPHD’s Technical Assistance Coalition for SAMHSA. He also promotes through writing, speaking, and system design on Peers in Crisis and The Fusion Model (the fusion of best practices of medical care with peer support and recovery).
