John Santopietro, MD, DFAPA, is the physician-in-chief of the Behavioral Health Network of Hartford HealthCare, headquartered in Hartford, Connecticut. The BHN encompasses almost 2700 staff providing impassioned and recovery-based care to tens of thousands of clients at seven acute care hospitals and four main BH campuses including the Institute of Living, one of the oldest and most well-respected psychiatric facilities in the country. He has devoted his career to improving care and the experience of care for people living with mental illness. He has held many leadership positions and is nationally known for his work. Dr. Santopietro graduated from Yale University, Northwestern University Medical School and completed his internship, residency and fellowship at Harvard Medical School. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is a distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He was president of the Connecticut Psychiatric Society where he earned an award for his leadership during the Sandy Hook tragedy. He has been appointed to advisory boards by governors in both Connecticut and North Carolina and serves on multiple national boards and workgroups focused on improving mental health care nationwide.
